The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin
This story was absolutely amazing, As i read along I could almost feel the emotions of the wife. reading, I was not sure if the relationship betweeen husband and wife had in fact been horrible or if she was just rejoicing that she would get herself back. due to marriage you do loose a little bit of yourself so i felt that was possible what she had been feeling but at the end her reaction to find hes alive i got the sense she was hurt. i truly wasnt expecting the story to end the way it did, but it definitely made the story worth reading.

The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara
I truly enjoyed reading this story, it might be my favorite of the semester. It was simple to read, yet remained fruitful. I believe the gist of the story is a teacher takes her students on a trip downtown to F.A.O. Schwarz to teach them " a lesson". At first everyone is kind of timid and no one wants to go in first...then mercedes breaks the ice and goes in. Once the students are in the store they began to realise the price tags and how everything in their eyes in over priced, although from the window they seemed to want it. None of the students particularly like the teacher ms.moore, but i think at the end they have a bit of understanding. In the beginning sylvia goes on about how she has perfect speech and always dresses well, but she says it in away like shes annoyed. At the end of the story you can tell sugar has a slight change of heart and is interested in learning but sylvia is almost mad at her for it. Whats funny is sylvia herself goes and wants think about how the day went and you get the since she wants something better for herself.

Everyday Use by Alice Walker
I loved the story. The mother is very strong and confident and content with herself, I love that. Maggie isn't the brightest or greatest by appearance but her she is true and real and has her own smart about her. Dee doesn't have much depth in my opinion. She is materialistic and book smart and apparently easy on the eyes but she doesn't have much heart. Although she thinks she does she does not know the beauty of her grandmother and aunts quilts. She accuses her mother of not knowing her heritage but by her attitude i'd argue to say she doesn't know hers.

A Worn Path by Eudora Welty
First, I liked the fact the story contained a lot of detail and imagery, although I found that made it challenging to seperate sceneary from symbolism. The "granny" Phoenix Jackson is a very stong woman who has a strong since of self, yet is "old" and suffers from things that average old people suffer from such as memory lost and sliping away into their mind. She was most likely born and raised and has lived in the same area all her life, being she was coutning on her feet to know there own way into town. I believe the man in the story to be a typical "man not of color" during "back in the day" times. I was a little bothered by the way he spoke to "granny" but being she wasn't I say she was either around during enslavement or had immediate family who was. Overall I enjoyed reading the story.

A Good Man is Hard to Find
Overall I found the story to be hard to read, yet, I was anxious to find out where the story was going. My initial thaughts of what the story would be about was off by a lot. i think the gradmother died last because of the same things the family didnt like about her. i thaught the meaning behind the misfits name was very interesting. i found the murders sad and still wonder why they were killed inthe order that they were.

The Use of Force by William Carlos Williams
On a deeper level the young girl's behavior when her dad had to hold her made me think she was possible abused. The doctor's thaughts of the young girl...made me feel he wasn't exactly all together either. He has many opinions about her physical appearance. Although all this is possible, on the surface the young girl is simply spoiled and her parents are "old fashioned". The father at some point sends the mother out of the room as to say she should let the men handle the situation. The doctor's methods were definitley questionable , but he exscused them well by hinting the little girl could die if he was un able to do his exam. I believe the visit only happened the way it did because it was in a home and not an office (professional setting that demands one to act a certain way). Overall I enjoyed the story, I found it interesting and thaught provoking.
